Yes, I actually graduated from nursing school. Yes, somehow I passed boards. And yes, now I’m a working nurse (in training). And it’s somewhat terrifying! There is all this information and I feel like I know none of it! Do I even know how to keep a patient alive?! At this point, after a week on the floor I feel like I’m a bit in survival mode. Get my tasks done, keep my patients alive, chart, chart, chart!

I was driving in the car with David the other day and I was looking all around me and it hit me how amazing it is that we have, light poles, cars that run, planes in the air, shoes on our feet, books, t.v., on and on. How does it work? How did it come about? Who thought one day “I’ll do this and put this, this and this together” and BAMO, an automobile is made. Way back when, none of this was around. God made us with so much potential, with so much creativeness and look now at all these accomplishments. To me, it’s quite amazing, especially since I have a hard enough time putting dinner together each night.

I feel very self motivational right now but I was thinking that en-light of these thoughts, I have the potential to be a great nurse. Yes, after awhile anyone can get good at their job but I want to be better than just “good at my job” I want to be great. I don’t want to limit myself. To you reading this, don’t limit yourself! Be great, stretch yourself, do things that make you uncomfortable, grow, and create! The creator of the universe created us, in His image! Be great!

How am I going to do this? Day by day. Praying and pondering, “Lord, what have you put before me today?” Then go about doing it to my best ability, learn, grow and hopefully, enjoy the process too.

I’ve only been a Mom for a little over three months now but I feel like I’m exploding with new feelings, emotions and thoughts! One thing I’ve been wanting to share is how having a child has taught me more about being a child of God.

Mia can’t do anything for me. She’s actually pretty helpless and quite needy. But, I love her more than I can speak in words. My heart explodes with love for her and not because she does anything for me, but because she is my child. I think it is the same way with Christ and us. We may think we do things to earn Christ’s love but let’s get real, for me at least, I know I am actually pretty helpless and quite needy. Yet I know Christ loves me more than I love Mia, beyond what I can imagine, because I am His child.

When Mia cries or is hurting, I am right there. I try to comfort her, hold her close to me, rock her, sing to her, and try to help her. I think then, how much more would Christ be with us when we are hurting. I have all these instincts as a parent to be right there and try to help her, I will do my best but I am not perfect, I will fail her. But Christ is perfect, and I know his love for me is perfect. It comforts me to know that He is right there when I am hurting, He loves me perfectly and is the perfect comforter.

Lastly, I love, love, love it when Mia sees me and smiles in delight. I love that she knows my face and always lights up. When I talk and play with her and she smiles and laughs, oh my, there is almost nothing better. It’s the best thing in the world. I love that she knows me, it delights me. In the same way, I think Christ wants to be known, wants us to know His face and is delighted when we delight in Him.

I know there’s so much more I will learn as Mia grows, I can already think of other parallels. Discipline, her breaking my heart and still loving her…

If you have a child, what have they taught you?

The other day I started a casual conversation with a girl from work and it lead into talking about kids, pregnancy and c-sections. She briefly mentioned she had her first c-section because of an emergency and lost the baby. I could tell she was trying to keep the casual conversation tone, but even as she glanced down I could see the pain in her face and the slight tear in her eye. The moment didn’t last long, she was able to shake it off but I saw it. I saw her pain.

That moment really affected me. It reminded me that so many people walk around with pain and tears inside. And everyone deals with there pain differently. Being quiet, angry, loud, crazy, shut down…

The next time someone treats me rudely or wrong, blows up at me, acts insecure, is very quiet – I hope I remember to give them grace, I hope I don’t judge too quickly, and I hope I don’t take it personally. Remembering that each person has walked their own journey, has probably experienced great pain or will, and has their own set of insecurities and fears.

Wal-Mart Worker Dies When Shoppers Break Down Doors

Now, I’m not all anti-shopping the day after thanksgiving… I’ve gone a few times. Yet, the more I think about it, it does seem sad that the day after thanksgiving, the day we are to be thankful, remembering all that we are blessed with – we have black friday. A day of get, get, get and want, want, want. Seems a bit ironic doesn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong cause I love to shop but I am rethinking this whole black friday shopping day. I’m certianly not judging you if you do go. And I can’t say I’ll never go again, but when I think about it in my heart of hearts, I can’t help but feel that I may not be going in the future. I had such a fun day with the family, playing games and hanging out at home – who knows, maybe this will become my family’s tradition.

What are your thoughts and feelings about black friday?
